Design in process for the flagship location of a new brewery and restaurant in Detroit. Drawing on the neighborhood’s deep cultural history and radical new creative developments, this project aims to further the walkability and accessible public space of the area with a street-facing courtyard and a secluded beer garden. Nestled in a native landscape, Gardenside is an oasis for community members to gather around food and drink. The prefabricated structure is modified to create a large corner opening, connecting customers to the outdoors. The interior is designed with reclaimed tile and renewable cork, pops of bright color, and custom lanterns and planters lush with  foliage. Sustainability strategies including rainwater collection, process water reclamation, high-efficiency electric systems, and low-waste practices further emphasize the brewery’s commitment to the city and the environment.
